Along with countless other visitors, I was charmed by the blue-hued streets and alleyways. One of the theories as to why the city is blue is that the Sephardic Jews who were expelled during the Spanish Inquisition brought the tradition of painting their homes blue. Then in recent times, the locals painted the entire old city to entice visitors. This city is no travel secret, but if you get out early in the morning you can find quiet streets. And in a place that lives daily with large numbers of tourists, I do my best to say hello to the locals and show respect for their beautiful city.
