St. Andrews Bay, South Georgia, is a year-round breeding colony for an estimated 200,000 pairs of king penguins. The king penguin population, now protected and actively monitored, has rebounded on these subantarctic islands after nearly being erased by whalers who hunted these cold, rich waters. The kings of South Georgia are truly one of the greatest pulses of life on this planet.
