Was trying to think of a good pic to go along with the debate that’s been going on in my Instagram stories (and all over the world) over the past days when I came across this little gem by @broobs.psd via @chaninicholas 🔥 FUCK YOUR ABORTION BAN. I did a poll in stories asking “Should women have the right to choose what to do with their own bodies” and several hundred people answered “NO”. Many of them women. Which century are we in? Are the people answering no to this question on fundamental human rights considering the fact that most people that are anti-abortion or pro-forced childbirth are massively privileged and that the majority of women that actually suffer through having to make these hard choices are not? You will never be able to put yourself in the shoes of a woman fighting to put food on the table every day and how scarcity and lack of support greatly impacts a life-changing choice like this. White women living cushy, comfortable lives (and let’s not even talk about MEN!!!) should not dictate what women in under-resourced communities do with their bodies. No single person or government entity should be in charge of our bodies, period! Bodily autonomy and self-determination lay the very foundation of human rights. Our right to choose. You can be anti-abortion - and apply that belief to yourself and to your own life. But there is no way in hell can you ADVOCATE anti-abortion and call yourself a feminist at the same time. Hell nah.
This is not a complicated issue. Letting the government and male politicians decide what women do with their bodies is not a road we want to walk down... (and let’s not get started on medical mandates because I might just start breathing fire). Fuck your abortion ban. And before you tell me to “stay in my lane” - abortion is illegal in Aruba and fuxk yes I’m fighting that. We all are. In Sweden abortion has been legal since 1938(!) but there are seriously scary political parties pushing for a reversal there, too. There are lots of scary shit going on in the world right now. Let’s stay on the right side of history. x
