It is called the short eared dog and is in the genus Atelocynus. The short eared dog was once thought to be related to the Bush dog but recent studies have put that idea in doubt. The short eared dog might represent a truly unique branch of the Canid tree. Unlike other Canids the females of this species are considerably larger than the males. The males also have a musk gland on their tail which they can spray. They live on a diet primarily of fish, insects and small mammals. They will also occasionally eat fruit. Although not much is known about this unique Canid, they are considered near threatened. This is primarily due to diseases introduced by domestic dogs as well as the destruction of its habitat in the tropical rainforest.
