The Cuban revolutionary leader came to power in 1959 and died on November 25, 2016, at age 90. Over a four-day period, his ashes were driven from Havana to Santiago's Santa Ifigenia Cemetery. Fidel was interred by his brother Raul Castro, who placed the urn inside a giant boulder, just next to where Cuban independence hero José Martí was buried. On Fidel’s boulder was a plaque with just one name: "Fidel.”
