I met her before dawn under a lemon yellow sky and followed her through cool and quiet streets while most of the community slept. She gathered garbage in her trolley, door-to-door, like she does six days a week. Ester lives in the neighborhood and she knows all the families she collects trash from. Her home is a small two-story house in a narrow alleyway, beautifully decorated with a large collection of clocks, stuffed toys, and other recycled garbage. Once the collection is complete, Ester and her colleagues sort the recycling from the trash before the garbage truck comes to collect the garbage.
