Wandering albatrosses dance beneath the Milky Way glowing in the sub-Antarctic night sky. On Marion Island most courtship activities take place during the day, usually peaking in late afternoon. However on one clear and freezing cold night I could clearly hear the donkey like braying sounds of sky calling wandering albatrosses echo across the plains. Moving around the island terrain of swampy mires and treacherous lava fields is tricky at night and I only managed to make a single photograph right at the tail end of this elaborate courtship ritual.
