Near the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway in #NorthCarolina, an ancient granite monolith rises above the surrounding forested mountains. Looking Glass Rock was formed by cooling magma under the Earth’s surface. Over hundreds of millions of years, erosion exposed and smoothed its granite walls, giving it a haunting beauty. It gets its name from the way it shimmers in the sunlight after a rain. Enjoy a stunning view during sunrise and sunset from Looking Glass Rock Overlook at milepost 417.
