He’s off to sleep-away camp with nothing but some clothes, his buddy, and a three army arsenal of epinephrine and albuterol. (He will have a blast and I will make it through this 🙏🏼)

@bugsbooks If you need more than 2 push for it. If you honestly don't then consider filling your prescription for only what you need. Epi- Pen shortage is a pain. I also have 2 sets but my doctor m ordered 3 insurance ok’d it and pharmacy filled it but when I heard about the shortage and parents having a difficult time filling their prescription I refused the 3rd one. In my area of Los Angeles, it's very hard for me to find a pharmacy that has them in stock. Last year it took me 6 months to get a refill.

I was a food allergy kiddo. My experience growing up was not that great. There wasn’t a lot of knowledge or experience in food allergies in the early 90s- therefore I couldn’t go to camps/play dates/sleepovers or even eat in the lunchroom. I am so so so SO HAPPY seeing kids today get to experience childhood as normal (as possible) with allergies. Crying happy tears. Have so much fun jack!

My mom and I were just talking about this today—I started going to sleep away camp for A WEEK right after second grade and my mom was a wreck and I essentially pushed her and my dad out of the teepee ? I then went back every summer through 8th grade, and in college, I was a camp counselor. Camp is the BEST thing that can happen to a kid! So much confidence and bravery and independence!

He is going to love it so much, and I’m sure there are great nurses and counselors to help him if he needs it. I always get sad leaving my kids at camp, but they love it so much. We moved to Florida this year, and I had to bring them back to Idaho this week so they could go to camp. You’re doing the right thing letting him go even though it’s scary with his health concerns.❤️

@jennifertakumi Thanks! With three kids and him being only 1 (and therefore unable to communicate about his needs) we really want to make sure both my wife and I have one on our bodies at all time, so we’d really like the 3rd. I’ve heard of other options, so it doesn’t have to be the epi pen brand...

I have an anaphylactic allergy to peanuts and my mother felt like you do. He will be OK! I was actually overcautious for myself and usually ended up losing a little bit of weight, which was also caused by all the extra physical activity. I gained it right back when I got home. Hang in there mom!
