Up river from here is "Decision Point", where Meriwether Lewis and William Clark found the confluence of the Missouri River with the Marias River. Lewis and Clark noted that the south fork was clearer, smoother, and more rapid, and its bottom was "composed of round and flat smooth stones like most rivers issuing from a mountainous country." This was one of the first true tests of their ability to lead and make good decisions.
