This is the day Mazzy and Harlow sold lemonade to the ice cream truck man. That was a FEAT! What's funny is that I totally didn't think he would stop, but Mazzy and Harlow were confident they would make the sale. I shouldn't have doubted them! My daughters have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I think that's partly because they know that I have carved out a career and a business for myself. I love that I help show them what's possible. I love that when Harlow bakes, it's not just to make a batch of cookies. She wants a baking show. Mazzy loves drawing comics, so her goal is to publish a graphic novel. When Harlow makes her snack plates, she's exploring party planning. When Mazzy draws a new character, she thinks, “Maybe we could sell this on a shirt!” I love that they think this way. I can't even tell you how many times they have said they want to be their own boss like mommy because then they can make their own rules. I tell them being your own boss is awesome, but you have to be really motivated to start your own business and keep it going. There is no slacking. I'm excited to announce I'm partnering with Brother @ptouchessentials for @lemonadedaybk, which is all about teaching kids the value of entrepreneurship! Do you have questions for me about starting or running your own business? Ask in the comments below! I'll be answering some of these questions on my story next week! #ad #LemonadeDay #ChangeTheWayYouWork

I’m the type of person that can’t settle on one idea. I get business ideas for things I can do at home and start working on it but it never takes off because I get a different idea. My son is 12 and I’m finding he is a lot like me. He’s been wanting to have a business since he was 7. He comes up with things to create and sell but doesn’t quite follow through, or does it briefly and stops. I love that he wants to create and have a business, I just don’t want him to end up like me, always bouncing from one thing to another and not getting anywhere. At this age he should experiment, so how can I also encourage sticking with something?

No question about starting a business but you are so right about having to be motivated. My retail store is open 7 days a week. Burnout is a huge factor. Balancing one’s time and family life becomes paramount. But the key to staying motivated is being fed by others! Having a network of people who can lift your ass up off the ground!

I love this! I’ve been running my own business for my kids’ entire lives. Plus, a few years ago I co-founded a nonprofit to help teachers buy basic supplies called @grantedfoundation. It makes me proud that they can see me building a fulfilling work life and devoting energy to being of service to others. ♥️

How and why did you get started? I have an inner drive for entrepreneurship, but I find I struggle to read my markets. I’m an excellent writer (toot toot), yet commanding an audience is a challenge! Was Mommy Shorts an idea over night, or did it stem from blogging primarily for fun?

How do you keep from being on devices in front of your kids? I mean obviously you have to take some photos abd videos but then do you wait to post and write? I just worry about being too caught up in the phone and giving them the wrong message

Excited to read this coming post. I would like to know how long it took to develop and what process you used to get enforcements and partnerships. How did you market your business in the beginning to get people to take notice.
