It’s pouring out today, so I’m going to continue posting pics from the weekend. The dads took Harlow and her friend kayaking in the bay and apparently, the girls wanted to hold hands half the time. Must be nice going kayaking without the responsibility of paddling! Also a few people sent me articles about a shark spotted in a bay near my house 😱😱😱 It wasn’t that close and apparently it is a basking shark which is harmless, but it was still 10-12ft long and swimming in warm shallow water. Holy crap, the animals have all gone mad. I also saw a video of a deer playing in the waves at the beach alongside all the people. This was in Michigan I think, by a lake. And two bears playing on a swing set that happens to be the same exact one we have. This was Connecticut. Is this like a few years before they all band together and take earth back from the humans??? Maybe next week, I’ll walk into the movies and find myself sitting next to a kangaroo? Or ordering Starbucks behind a meerkat??? Scary times 😳

It's interesting with deer. I don't think it is so much a climate change thing as much as it is that people have made their habitats smaller and smaller. And because they are around humans more, they have less fear of them. Our house backs up to woods and a creek and it is not at all unusual to see a dozen deer parade through the yard in the early mornings/evenings. But they are even getting bold enough to go right through the yard with a bunch of loud crazy kids in the pool. Side note: I think deer are a huge part of the reason that the bees are disappearing. The deer eat EVERYTHING and there are no flowers left.

@mommyshorts "the animals have all gone mad" ? I'm from Mexico so I'm not even sure that's what the dentist said, but in Spanish he says "los animales se han vuelto locos!" which is the exact translation of that and I thought about Finding Nemo too when I read the caption ?

We do live in Vermont but my husband got an email about bears on the campus of UVM where he works. It’s in the middle of the city of Burlington! The email advised backing away slowly if outside but if it’s in the building and it attacks you, you should fight back!😲🐻

This is unrelated but I just want to let you know how I’ve learned from you in letting my 6yo daughter do things for herself without hovering or stressing about messes, things getting damaged, etc. She’s currently making me a “snack bar” a la Harlow 😊

@mommyshorts you should come to Montana! We have animals everywhere! In the past week we’ve dealt with a bear in a city park that’s along the river and a mountain lion roaming through town and one of our college campuses 🤷🏻♀️

At my parent’s house in the woods of Connecticut, the raccoons and skunks play together by the bird feeders at night. That particular combination of cleverness and stench scare the heck out of me. I think they know.
