Hong Kong police used tear gas to disperse protesters who vandalized a police station on Saturday night -- and @mattriverscnn witnessed this dispersal operation first hand. The day saw two rival protests take place in the city: a pro-police assembly, and a much larger march against a controversial extradition bill. The bigger anti-government protest quickly got ugly as night fell, and demonstrators continued beyond their designated end point -- protesters broke car windows, vandalized a police station, threw eggs, and shone laser pointers at officers' faces. Riot police were mobilized in the evening, with police firing tear gas and some protesters throwing bricks. It's the ninth consecutive weekend of protests in Hong Kong, with more demonstrations planned next week. For the latest, head to cnn.com/hongkongprotests

TBH the focus has long been shifted to the attitude of the police and the government towards the protestors in the recent protests. How angry do the protestors have to be, for them to give up their leisure time every single weekend to join demonstrations?? They aren’t much fun- On the night of 21st July, triads attacked innocent people on the trains in Yuen Long district. Originally they planned to attack those returning home from the protests, but soon after they started a mass attack on innocent people including a pregnant woman and elderly. They surrounded the pregnant woman that had fallen to the ground and beat her with sticks as she tried to stop the attacks. The police arrived at the scene after 40 minutes, whereas the firemen were the ones to try n stop the attackers! The police are well-paid to ensure the safety of citizens, aren’t they? what’s more, footage of many TV stations showed police officers putting their hands on the backs of the attackers as if encouraging them. Footage also showed police officers walking away from the station as the attack went on. That’s why people are suspicious of the relationship between the popo and the triads( Police are long known to fear them and it is suspected that the triads were paid to attack-) The day after, people demanded the police to give a suitable explanation, but what they got was a senior officer going like,” No, we weren’t late for 40 min, it was only 39 min.”NO APOLOGY OR STH THAT WOULD HELP REGAIN TRUST😳😳that’s why people are so heated at the moment!! Here’s a bit of background info on HK from the mouth of a hongkonger, hope it helps, thank you!

The fact is Mainland China provides 80% fresh water to hongkong. Dayawan Nuclear Power Plant supply 30% electricity to hongkong. While hongkong failed introducing new technologies such as cyberport plan, preferred the tycoons to run hongkong, rely unchanged on the property, finance, trade industry. Then the young began to blame mainland China. Just one question: did hongkong ever been introduced universal suffrage before 1997 handover?

Absolutely China is the greatest. We all know that the US always interferes in other countries' internal affairs under the banner of freedom and democracy. Some Hong Kong thugs bit off the fingers of Hong Kong police officers and insulted the national flag and emblem. It's too guilty. America should stop luring young people from Hong Kong!

I just want to say to some American politicians. It's not your business. It’s China here, our country. Hongkong is one part of China. No matter how violent the protestors are. We'll never give up. Unlike the gun shots in America, Chinese police are protecting the citizens from the violence of protestors. 🇨🇳🇭🇰
