Today is International Owl Awareness Day, a day that’s important because owls are excellent at disguise — making awareness of them somewhat challenging. Fierce hunters, owls fly silently and have excellent hearing and eyesight. There are 19 species of owls found in North America and plenty of opportunities to spot these birds on public lands or in your backyard.

lctwelch I’ve seen many owls in the wild - most were in my yard: great horned owls, screech owls, barred owls and barn owls. I left trees, bushes, brush and grasses in place to keep their natural environment intact. Wonderful creatures!
