Later this month, a beloved favorite of the collection will be removed from the galleries to undergo a year-long conservation research and treatment project. Stop by the museum before Aug 26 to see Charles Willson Peale's "Staircase Group"—you won’t be able to see it in person again until our brand-new galleries of American art open in 2020.

One of the guards told me this story: Ben Franklin was a friend of Peales, and walking into his studio, he saw the painting and mistook it for Peales children and tipped his hat, injuring the painting before anyone had seen it

I miss the one with the two small dogs (Pomeranians?) one dog wearing earrings and on a chair and the other chair knocked over. You know that one?

I love this man and his family. All his children were named for famous painters. His daughter was married to a painter also.

It’s one of my favorites whenever I bring a guest they’re always amused and love it. I’m happy I went this weekend. 👍🏼

Is that a staircase going up to a Philadelphia bedroom? That’s what they call a singular bedroom on a higher floor.
