Wounded while fighting with a segregated regiment in World War I, Horace Pippin began painting and carving wood as physical and emotional therapy. He began "The Ending of the War, Starting Home" in 1930 and worked on it for several years as he grappled with the events of the war, experiences he later said "brought out all the art in me." On view now in "Horace Pippin: From War to Peace."

Spent a few moments, a few days ago, with this striking Pippin. Quiet space at PMA allows introspection at PMA😎
