This is a large part of our content because, quite frankly, that is what people like to see. There is a lot more we do and a reason that we have these two different animals. In the words of Princeton University scientist Dr. Bridgett vonHoldt “Your foxes and NGSD are so critical to be included in genetic studies on domestication”. So why do we care about learning the genetic basis of domestication? First off, as humans we just don’t like not knowing stuff. We really don’t know the complete story as to how wolves turned into man’s best friend, dogs. These studies might help complete the story. Perhaps more importantly, there is evidence that the story of domestication might help to better understand the genetic basis of human social bonding disorders such as Autism. If this research pans out it could make a real difference in many peoples lives. If we can help both Canids and Humans, even if behind the scenes, our mission will be fulfilled. .
