Photo by @amivitale | Zebras roam the open plains of Ol Pejeta Conservancy in northern Kenya. The conservancy is also home to lions, leopards, aardvarks, chimpanzees, elephants, cheetahs, black rhinos, and Fatu and Najin—the last two northern white rhinos on the planet.
Right now an inspiring plan to save the northern white rhino is under way. An extraordinary team from the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, Avantea, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya Wildlife Service, and Safari Park Dvur Kralove just successfully created two northern white rhino embryos from eggs that were extracted from the last two living female northern white rhinos. These embryos, now stored in liquid nitrogen, will be transferred into a surrogate mother in the near future.
