Photo by Trevor Frost @tbfrost | Philodryas viridissima, more commonly known as the emerald palm snake, is likely the rarest snake I've photographed in the Amazon. Like many species of the colubrid snake, the emerald palm flattens its head when threatened in order to mimic a viper. Though it does not have true fangs like a viper, this species—and others in the genus—are known for causing serious bites, as their venom is potent. To see more photos of snakes from the Amazon, I'm @tbfrost.
