Happy Eid, in English. Eid Mubarak in most of the Muslim world. And Selamat Hari Raya in Singapore. Eid-ul-Fitr is the widely celebrated 3-day Islamic festival announcing the end of almost 30 days of fasting during Ramadan, the holiest time of the year for all Muslims. With the conclusion of Ramadan, Eid is a time of feasting, praying and socializing. In Singapore, Muslim families would be visiting the mosque followed by the traditional home visits with family and friends, and spending nights under the street decorations sampling festive foods. Instead, this year, they will join the service on radio and online, and listen from their homes. Virtual visits will replace actual ones. To my Muslim friends I wish you a joyful and blessed celebration. And in this time of global crisis, may the spirit of Eid, emphasizing sacrifice, forgiveness and generosity extend to us all. #eidmubarak #hariraya #muslim #singapore
