Japanese call it suna-mushi or sand bathing, a tradition that’s been going on here in the town of Ibusuki on Kagoshima Bay for more than 300 years. Clad in a light yukata kimono, beachgoers -- with assistance from attendants bury their bodies with the naturally warm (50-55°C) healing sands heated from steam vents from nearby volcanoes. It is said to be good for whatever ails you, from arthritis to asthma as well as a beauty treatment. 20 minutes was about all I could stand. #sandbath #sandbathing #ibusuki #kagoshima #kyushu
