The USA space program is back in the news with the launch of an American Falcon 9 rocket carrying 2 astronauts to the International Space Station. A new era of human spaceflight is about to begin as NASA, partnering with Elon Musks Spacex corporation sends American astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley for an extended stay at the space station for the first time since 2011 as part of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program. Lift off is scheduled for tomorrow at 4:33 p.m. EDT in Florida. In recognition of this historical event, I am posting this pic from a National Geographic story I shot back in the 90’s of Space World, a theme park all about space in Kyushu, Japan. One of its most popular attractions was the simulated launch of a life-size replica of a space shuttle that spews realistic flames and smoke enough to make spectators jump out of their seats. Normally there would be a million spectators for tomorrow’s Florida launch. But NASA is asking spectators to stay at home and watch it in TV. #spaceworld #spaceex #nasa
