We could get into a conversation about how poverty and hunger are not crimes, and we as a nation fail our brothers and sisters who don’t have enough to eat, but this is not the moment for that. This is a moment to clarify that no such thing makes a man deserving of death. And certainly not in the manner which you can see in thee video taken of Floyd’s murder. It’s ten minutes long. It was taken by a bystander. Multiple bystanders told police they appeared to be killing George. But they made no move. An officer crushed George’s airway with his knee. For more than ten minutes, but we can witness ten excruciating ones. While he laid face down on the asphalt, with a grown man’s knee in his neck, he begged them to let him breathe. He repeatedly gasped and said, “I can’t breathe.” He told them they were killing him. He gasped for his mother. And the officer made no move. The other three officers present didn’t pull him off the dying man. Bystanders shouted and told the officers to stop. They started filming. Still, no moves were made.
