The pobblebonk, or banjo frog of southeastern Australia, gets its name from its call, which is a banjo-like 'plonk' or 'bonk' sound. One calling frog usually triggers several nearby male frogs to sound off in quick succession, echoing throughout their home range. These calls can be heard at any time of the year, coming from vegetation, streams or burrows in creek banks.
