This is my first fashion week not attending in years & my heart is heavy. Last year I had one of the biggest moments of my career walking for @chromat & in the 3rd video you can see my angel @mamacax cheering me on. God I miss her every single day. @khrystyana captured how wonderful everyone was backstage after my walk because they knew how nervous I was, because it was my first big #NYFW show, but more importantly I had just left my husband & was still finding my power again. @veronicapomee @huntermcgrady @gabriellak_j @supermodelemme listened to me all day while I cried & talked me through my anxieties & held my hand, literally. I walked that show with one of my best friends @denisebidot & her daughter @justmejoselyn who I’ve seen grown into a beautiful young woman & it was a full circle moment.
I felt like a princess at @Harper's BAZAAR icons party in a beautiful custom gown that my amazing stylist @meaghanpoconnor made happen & laughed, drank champagne & danced the night away to @アリシア・キーズ singing New York to the crowd with @halima.
Met @blackdave on the sidewalk after the show while waiting for my car & forged a beautiful friendship. God I love NY.
After NYFW, I headed to London where I spoke on a panel with my dear friend @farrahstorr about the work the fashion industry & inclusivity- plus she let me do her makeup backstage lol. I met @ナオミ・キャンベル, @edward_enninful & cried more from sheer gratitude.
At the @British Vogue party I danced all night with @kitty_su @jamesbwebster @pippavosper @vtgesther & had so much fun with @palomafaith & @neciashairstyling all around London eating pasta. I ordered pizza too many times with @afroglory_ @rachelisabelle & laughed until we were sick. I saw someone of my favorite humans @daniellismore @angelovallillo @isseyhyde, got tattooed by @lucietattoo & ended my time in London by closing @londonqueerfashionshow with @dolly_pawton in my arms (thx @lucylondonofficial!)
Fashion isn’t superficial like people make it out to be, its transformative & has changed my life. I used to think fashion week wasn’t for people like me, bodies like mine, because for a long time, it wasn’t. Until we all meet again.
