A cute crustacean in claw-sonné 🦞

Cloisonné is an ancient method used all around the world for decorating metalwork objects. In this technique, metal wires are used to delineate areas of the piece ("cloisons" in French) that are then filled with a paste made from enamel powder before being fired.

Take a look at this lobster detail on a cloisonné vase. Can you see the wires? Swipe → to see the full work, including something fishy at the end...

Andō Jūbei (attributed to), "Vase with Design of Lobster and Goldfish," circa 1900-1910, cloisonné enamel with silver mounts and gold wires.
