I know you guys miss my daily sprints to the bus, but I have to say, I am really loving my new school commute. It’s about twenty blocks. Harlow scoots and I run. We’ve got our favorite stretches of sidewalk (Harlow likes this part right before 14th street that is newly paved and extra wide so she can do some tricks), dogs we recognize on their daily morning walks (including a KCC that Harlow named “Old Man Frankie”), and even a new crossing guard friend at the halfway point. Every day she says “Happy (insert the day of the week)!” and we say it back. Harlow told me to ask her name. It’s Linda. We also have funny landmarks, like the mess of spilled chocolate pudding at the corner by the park that spread, baked and finally washed away after a period of two weeks. Or the random blue sock that is somehow STILL IN THE SAME SPOT since Monday. It’s the little things. Anyway, the other day, when we were driving out of the city to the house, we passed the crossing guard. “Hi Linda!” Harlow screamed at the closed window. “Who’s that?” Mazzy asked. “She’s my friend.” NYC feels a little bit smaller right now.
