The work is when loneliness creeps in, trying to drag your self-worth down, and with it, your standards. It’s when your mind spits out every excuse for why you can’t, how you’re not good enough, or that you’ll never find someone “like them” or “as good as them.” The work is when perfectionism and imposter syndrome swirl around in your head. It’s when no one in your network understands or supports your decision. It’s the process of getting to a place where you’re working with instead of against yourself. Sometimes it feels like the decision is the hard part—that things should be smooth sailing after we’ve finally come to a conclusion about something (or someone) that we’ve been ruminating on for months.

But we often find that the work really begins when the initial “high” of making that decision wears off.

The work is when loneliness creeps in, trying to drag your self-worth down, and with it, your standards.
