The winter line at Nainital stared back at me, as I remembered all those conversations with people who’d tell me that Mussoorie is the only place from where one could experience winterline.

I smiled because I knew it back then that it wasn’t true, after seeing winter line almost every evening in Mcleodganj, and as I stood atop Cheena peak, with the city of Nainital underneath, I saw the winter line peaking above the lower hills and terai region of Kumaon, where lay many a towns and forests in which tigers and leopards still roamed around, while the tourists were busy boating in the lakes that these hills hid within themselves.

You see I’ve always known Nainital through its crowd, when during all those family vacations we would visit only the attractions like hundreds of others present there, but during last few months, I finally got a chance to explore Nainital, to witness the glimpses of it that locals would always proudly tell me about. And I realised that beyond the mall, lake and snow view point, there’s still a huge Nainital left untouched by most, the part which would make you fall in love with the mountains, while also helping you witness some of the finest spectacles of nature.

And also help you tell all your Dehradun/Mussoorie friends, that hey, even Nainital has a pretty amazing winter line.
