WHY I LOVE GREEK FOOD!! 🇬🇷
Even though my Yiayia and Papou moved to Australia a LONG time ago now, they taught me all of the values and traditions they learnt growing up in Greece. Food is such a big part of Greek culture and I grew up eating a LOT of Greek food because of my grandparents - and it's definitely my favourite cuisine now!

My family usually eat with lots of different dishes on the table, so you can pick and choose what you put on your plate. This is great because you can try a bit of everything, and it's easy to make sure your meal is balanced with a lot of variety. We usually have a few salads and vegetable dishes, which always make up a big portion of my plate.

These kinds of Greek side dishes, like the salad in this photo, show how easy it is to make nutritious meals using simple ingredients. I normally serve these with protein, like barbequed chicken or lamb.

Here is what I always include in my meals to make sure they are balanced:

👉 Vegetables: Add a side salad like the one in this photo with chopped tomato, cucumber, lettuce, feta and a delicious olive oil dressing - or roast some vegetables to accompany your meal.
👉 Protein: I always include a good source of protein in my meals. Barbecued meat, like skewers, is a great option for summer - you could have skewers with lamb, chicken or fish. If you are vegetarian or flexitarian, you could try marinated tofu or chickpea falafels.
👉 Good Fats: Everyone knows that olive oil is a staple ingredient in a Mediterranean diet. 😂 I like drizzling an olive oil, oregano, lemon, salt and pepper dressing on most of my dishes. You can also add avocado to your salads, or sprinkle nuts and seeds over your dish.
