Catharine Mi-Sookさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Catharine Mi-SookInstagram)「I love the possibility at dawn in a new day. There are crafts afoot from the exquisite handiwork of others here and it reminds me of childhood. There is nostalgia and folklore seeping in the threads and stitches of such relics and I think that the arts & crafts world will always remain my favorite of forms because of the unique storytelling quality that it holds. My mom is a master quilter, dress maker, basket weaver, watercolor artist and craftswoman extraordinaire. For years we packed up two vehicles to the gills every Thursday or Friday evening and headed out to a new faire whilst pitch dark the following morning. A large tent, a few tables, two racks, displays, and the arrangement of wares, my personal favorite. We three took shifts with sales and breaks to wander, with me double teaming along in both. Sunday afternoon when the whirlwind dwindled it was time to pack up shop and head home. All this through sunshine, down trodden rain & thunder and snowstorms too. Once we almost got stuck in a blizzard and were extremely fortunate that right at that very moment an inn was alongside the road. All of these moments and memories are some of my most cherished from growing up with its impact still in my veins even now. I watched my mom’s shoulder deteriorate over time from the endless sewing and stitching of having to replenish goods after each show, until the time came one day where we had to lay down our tent pegs from that life. My mom still quilts, slowly, and has also picked up knitting and crochet too. She’ll always have her hand dipped in something, and I suppose I will too. The work of craeft is not an easy terrain, with more hours and labor than what it seems worth. But it is also a craft where the poetry of life spills out of hands that do this work, that pour into the parched spaces of our humanity, a humanity that desperately needs poetry and art and beauty. May we always have weavers and makers among us, may we also tangibly support them too. . . . Handmade Journal @quillandarrow - 10% off w/ code gratitude (ends tonight). Handwoven Bag @amberm.jensen.
