For GQ’s December issue, we visited the fathers and father figures of six Black victims of police brutality, including Selwyn Jones, the uncle of George Floyd. 

Jones had been a kind of father figure to the children of his sister Larcenia Floyd, especially to George, and after his nephew was killed by a white Minneapolis police officer in May, he decided to take a stand. Now the owner of a motel in Gettysburg, South Dakota, Jones successfully petitioned the local police department to remove its insignia, which included the Confederate flag, and has continued to fight for racial justice in Floyd's name. “A big change has been done by my nephew's passing,” he says. “And it's up to me to keep it going.”
