Christmas robins – I don’t tend to post many small birds on Instagram/Facebook as to be honest I don’t really photograph that many. As photographers we all naturally have different styles and whilst some favour what’s called ‘bird on a stick’ style photography it has never really been for me. If I’m going to photograph small birds then there is no better time than winter, the beautiful reflected light and the potential to capture images with genuine atmosphere and drama is so much more appealing. These birds, robins as we call them in the UK, are inextricably linked with our Christmas traditions and they can often be found adorning countless Christmas cards etc. This, a cursory Google search has just told me, is because postmen in Victorian Britain were often called Robins because of their red uniforms, hence why the robin came to become associated with the postmen who delivered the cards. I’m actually struggling to choose which one of these images that I like the best, which one would be suited to being on a Christmas card. It’s a bit late for this year but if you had to choose a favourite to go on a Christmas card then which one would it be for you?
