This nature study comes from a famous collection of 326 paintings commissioned by the Chief Justice of Bengal, Sir Elijah Impey, and his wife, Lady Mary.
Look closely in the lower-left corner—can you spot the two inscriptions? (Swipe for a better look!) This, like many of the paintings in the original album, was signed distinctively in Persian by the artist, Shaikh Zain al-Din, and refers in English to "Lady Impey in Calcutta.
