The experience made me realize the need for focusing my lens more on the changes and issues we’ve created with freshwater resources, rivers, the natural world, and climate. This 1,500-mile loved and litigated lifeline—the Colorado River—supports 40 million people across seven states, but it faces ongoing challenges with the current megadrought in the western U.S. According to one study, it continues to create the most extreme drought conditions in 1,200 years.
