You don’t have to look at this photo for long before you realize the Pallas’ cat doesn’t look like an ordinary feline. In fact, this wildcat is known for its unusual look, sporting a flattened and rounded face, stocky build, and excessive fluffiness. This body type, featuring a dense coat, creates the illusion that this cat is much larger than it actually is. In reality, they’re the size of domestic cats, weighing in at about ten pounds. The Pallas’ cat has the longest and thickest fur of any cat species, with its belly and tail fur being nearly twice as long as on their top and sides. It is believed that this helps to keep the cats warm as they hunt on snow throughout their home range in the rocky steppes of central Asia. Photo taken @millerparkzoo.
