I was all set up for a shoot at Colorado’s @cheyennemountainzoo. The only thing missing was the cat, who had no interest in posing. Turns out, tigers may be kings of the jungle, but they won’t walk onto my backgrounds unless they feel comfortable. We threw out meat for him, thinking surely that would do the trick. But he was impervious to it. Over and over again, he’d carefully stretch a paw onto the paper from his spot outside the background, grab the meat, and slink away to eat it. We did this for four hours. As the tiger took a nap, I wondered if we needed a more enticing treat, like an intern. Finally, one of the keepers remembered that enrichment activities with the tigers occasionally involved whiffs of perfume. So someone fetched a bottle of Prada fragrance and sprayed a little on the background. The tiger sauntered right in and sprawled out on the background! We got our picture.
