On our backs we carried two and a half days of food and fuel, some light bivy gear, and one small two-person tent to be shared between the three of us. ⁠ ⁠ The first 3,000 feet of the route began with an impressive face of mixed snow and rock. Our chosen route meandered its way through a mixture of steep snow fields and ice runnels. Luck was on our side, as the snow conditions allowed for easy travel and the spectacular granite of the Kichatnas provided good protection and anchors when needed. ⁠ ⁠ Once atop the buttress, we finally had a good look at the half mile of corniced ridge ahead. Thanks to solid snow conditions, we were able to bypass the worst of the ridge by traversing low across the NE face.
