Speaking to 'The Guardian', Segimon Rovira, leader of the Naturist-Nudist Federation of Catalonia, said, "Before, people would arrive at a nude beach and either leave or strip down. Now, they stay and keep their swimsuit on. But what they don't realise is that if there are a lot of them, they end up making us uncomfortable. It's a lack of respect." Rovira said this lack of respect has included laughter, staring and, occasionally, negative remarks. He added that "unfortunately, the women are usually more stared at or harassed" by clothed tourists who see the pristine beaches on social media or in travel guides, and don't realise they are traditionally nude spaces. The group recently contacted the Catalan government requesting a meeting to discuss what it called "the discrimination that nudists face on the beaches of Catalonia", but is yet to receive a response.
