"An easy one-hour drive out of bustling Hanoi lies a travel photography paradise. Quảng Phú Cầu village is most famous for its production of incense, used in many religious ceremonies and rituals in Vietnam. Incense production is a family affair, with several generations involved in manufacturing, dyeing, and drying bamboo sticks before they are coated in a fragrant paste. The drying process is incredibly photogenic, with millions of sticks fanned out in bunches, creating a riot of colour, shapes, and patterns. Workers can be seen wearing traditional Nón lá hats, adding to the visual appeal. There are countless compositions to explore. My tip is to arrive early while the sticks are still drying and the light is gentle, allowing you to experiment with focal lengths and angles. At Làng làm hương đỏ, the family welcomes photographers and has erected high platforms for amazing top-down perspectives. When I am out exploring and photographing candid scenes, I usually have my camera set in continuous mode, ensuring I'm ready for any spontaneous moments and increasing my chances of documenting 'the moment.' This setting proved perfect for this bustling village. I'm not known for travelling light, and as usual, I brought along every lens I own on this trip.
