Having a second skin takes on a whole new meaning with Kyeok Kim.
Her practice borrows approaches from handmade jewelry to produce large, cloak-like skins of copper wire. For The Shape of Time, her sculpture “Second Surface” becomes a form of camouflage that reinterprets human skin. Her work also starts conversations about today’s fashion and cosmetic industries – can all skin types be worn or shed?
“Second Surface” is art that conceals and secures simultaneously. Come view Kyeok Kim’s work in “The Shape of Time: Korean Art after 1989” on view now through Feb 11.
