Photograph by @remibenali. Siberut island, Indonesia. I am pleased to introduce you to Tuka, the young chief of a Mentawai clan. The yellow color of his skin is due to an unction of Tuba roots. The Mentawai sharpen their teeth, their body is often streaked with tiger-like tattoos and you will discover their singular concept of beauty this month on my feed. This ethnic group belongs to the Austronesian-speaking people who possibly left Taiwan 6000 years ago and settled on Siberut Island - 150 km west of Sumatra - at around 500 BC. They have lived mostly isolated throughout history and were saved from Indian, Islamic and colonial Dutch influences. As the sun stretches towards the horizon, we follow Tuka to the other side of the stream, entering his world with excitement and an open mind... #storytelling this month on my feed @remibenali.
