I was lucky enough to join an #expedition to be the first mountaineers ever to see this mountain in Chile's #CordilleraSarmiento that we fittingly called "The Fickle Finger of Fate." After first glimpsing it from a boat it seemed to be taunting us. We set up a base camp and finally climbed it after enduring nearly a month of tent-flattening winds and blinding snow and rain. Because this range is the westernmost #mountain crest of #Patagonia and bears the full brunt of storms swirling the planet in the "Furious Fifties" southern latitudes, it suffers some of the world's worst #weather and had never before been explored by anyone but possibly fishermen from tiny Puerto #Natales - 50 miles east.
