“Hatching spider tortoise eggs is difficult due to a variety of factors, including manipulating temperatures and humidity levels over a 200-day period. Our third and final spider tortoise egg developed a crack, causing a slight rupture in the shell membrane. Acting quickly, keepers used a disinfected gecko egg to cover the cracked shell and glued the shells together to keep any more progression from occurring. The “moment of truth” was seeing the tortoise embryo continue to develop. Then, the highly-anticipated tortoise hatched!
