When we arrived to Shenandoah National Park in February it was a frozen world. I had lived in the DC area (working at Nat Geo) for about eight years. For some reason, I had never explored the park in winter. But this road trip is a great chance to see all the parks in different seasons and we found that winter in Shenandoah was really amazing. In particular, we loved the frozen waterfalls, like this one (Dark Hollow Falls). Plus, we had the trails mostly to ourselves. Anytime is a good time to visit a national park
