Photographs exist showing the soldiers here in their bathing suits having fun while the war raged on close by. The people of WWI were modern like us. They lived in cities and faced similar vulnerabilities of modern life to those we face. Through WWI we can see through blindspots about the many profound ways that modern life desensitizes us from the core of our very humanness.
