A black cotton guipure lace dress from the iconic Prada Fall-Winter 2008-9 collection speaks to both hand and machine techniques showcased in the #ManusxMachina exhibition. Lace is a central star: a base of machined lace created by Swiss master craftsmen on antique looms in an intensive process yielding only a few meters per day. Flowers created of this exclusive lace were then hand-appliquéd on the surface, so that the demure quality of lace is given a dark and tactile depth for Prada.
