The Polygon House, a 730-square-foot structure in the Japanese mountain town of Karuizawa, “perches on a hill in a forest like an abandoned space pod,” @HanyaYanagihara writes for @tmagazine. Step inside this wonder of #architecture and you’ll find very little furniture. The house, designed by the architect Makoto Yamaguchi, is just one of about a dozen spectacular #avantgarde structures in Karuizawa, about an hour from Tokyo by train. Most of them are the work of prominent Japanese architects. You have to wonder what made Karuizawa home to so much experimentation. “And yet to do so would be to forget how deeply encouraging Japan has always been of the strange, the weird and the experimental, especially when it comes to design,” @HanyaYanagihara writes.
