This ancient Egyptian mummy mask was made for a woman named Satdjehuty, who died sometime around 1500 BC. She was a high-ranking member of the court of the pharaoh Ahmose, and funerary objects from this time are rare. Masks like these were made from ‘cartonnage’ – layers of linen or papyrus covered with plaster – and placed over the linen-wrapped body.
