‘Pérouse, Le Campanile dr Santa Maria Nuova’ by Henri Edmond Cross is one of a small group of paintings that he executed in the winter of 1908, inspired by a visit to Italy in the summer of that year. These works, which are among his last paintings, show the artist delighting in not only the city’s vibrant hues and dazzling light of central Italy, but also in the physical surroundings of the region’s medieval towns.
